1. SOT Aleksey Pushkov, head of the Duma's Foreign Affair Committee "We have no reliable confirmations that the Assad government used chemical weapons. The leadership of the US national Security Council that made this announcement cites intelligence reports. The problem is that one time the Bush administration also cited intelligence to prove to the entire world that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. As we all know this became the basis for the aggression against Iraq and for Iraq's occupation, but no weapons were found there neither nuclear nor biological no chemical weapons." SCRIPT Russia: After Iraq, trust in US "empty phrases" impossible The claims made by the US that the Syrian government made use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) are false, says Aleksey Puhskov, head of the Duma's Foreign Affair Committee, in Moscow on Friday. According to the head of the foreign affairs committee of the Russian Parliament "We have no reliable confirmations that the Assad government used chemical weapons. The leadership of the US national Security Council that made this announcement cites intelligence reports. The problem is that one time the Bush administration also cited intelligence to prove to the entire world that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. As we all know this became the basis for the aggression against Iraq and for Iraq's occupation, but no weapons were found there neither nuclear nor biological no chemical weapons." He went on to suggest that trust in such empty phrases after Iraq, is impossible and states that it is all part of the the US political agenda to topple the Assad government. Pushkov's claims follow a statement made by the White House it has proof that Syrian Army troops have used WMD. In the same statement the US authorities alleged Syrian militant troops to make the same use of WMD.

Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEmpire Follow on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/AJEmpire It has been 10 years since the US-led invasion of Iraq, which marked a turning point in the West's so-called war on terror. The pretext of the Iraq war was security and freedom, but the bombastic and openly pronounced objective was no less than remaking the greater Middle East region. For the US, Iraq became a quagmire and a humiliation - a strategic and moral failure that the country has spent the last four years trying to forget. As Africa now becomes the new front line in the 'war on terror', Empire asks: have the Europeans learned from America's mistakes? Guests: John Nagl: retired Lieutenant Colonel and co-author of US army and Marine Corps Counterinsurgency Field Manual Jean Marie Guehenno: director of the Center of International Conflict Resolution at Columbia University and and former United Nations under secretary general for Peacekeeping Operations Barbara Bodine: professor and former US Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen Christopher Hedges: Former New York Times Middle East bureau chief and author of "Empire of Illusion" For more Empire: http://www.youtube.com/show/empire http://www.aljazeera.com/programmes/empire/ http://ajempire.tumblr.com At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe In keeping with Barack Obama's presidential campaign promise, the US has withdrawn its troops from Iraq and by the end of 2012 US spending in Iraq will be just five per cent of what it was at its peak in 2008. In a special two-part series, Fault Lines travels across Iraq to take the pulse of a country and its people after nine years of foreign occupation and nation-building. Now that US troops have left, how are Iraqis overcoming the legacy of violence and toxic remains of the US-led occupation, and the sectarian war it ignited? Is the country on the brink of irreparable fragmentation? Correspondent Sebastian Walker first went to Baghdad in June 2003 and spent the next several years reporting un-embedded from Iraq. In the first part of this Fault Lines series, he returns and travels from Basra to Baghdad to find out what kind of future Iraqis are forging for themselves. A new report has found that at least 56-hundred Daesh militants have returned to their homelands as the terror group loses ground in Syria and Iraq. US-based think tank, the Soufan Center says those returning home will be a security challenge for years to come. They include half of the estimated 850 people that left the UK to join ISIL. 33 US states have also reported returns over the past two years. Daesh took control of swathes of land in Iraq and Syria over the past three years with some 20-thousand foreigners joining the terrorist group in the two countries.
